Ever wanted to make something from scratch? Come join us for a totally laid back pottery session where we’ll be building plant pots. We’ll be using traditional slab-building techniques, which is just a fancy way of saying we’ll be rolling out clay, cutting shapes, and piecing them together.
No experience? Seriously, don’t worry. This isn’t The Great Pottery Throw Down – it’s a relaxed, social space to chat, unwind, and play with clay. Whether you consider yourself “creative” or haven’t touched a craft since school, you’re welcome here.
What to expect:
-
Step-by-step guidance: We will walk you through the whole process – shaping, constructing, and adding those personal touches.
-
Zero creative pressure: Want a perfectly sleek minimalist pot? Great. Want something wonderfully lumpy with tons of texture and personality? Even better. You do you.
-
The waiting game: Once you’re done, you leave the messy part to us. We’ll dry, glaze, and fire your creation in the kiln. It takes about 2 to 6 weeks for the magic to happen, and we’ll shout when it’s ready for you to take home to your favorite plant.
Come on in, make a mess, and leave with a piece that is uniquely, undeniably yours.
The Game Plan
1. The Welcome & Intro
We’ll kick things off by settling in with some refreshments. We’ll show you a few examples of what others have made to get your creative juices flowing, and quickly run through the boring-but-important logistics of how the glazing and firing process works.
2. The Demo
Before you get stuck in, we’ll show you exactly how it’s done. You’ll learn how to use templates to cut your slabs, how to build strong walls, and the secret to joining clay so it doesn’t fall apart in the kiln (a magical technique called “scoring and slipping”). We’ll also show you how to add fun textures and smooth out your edges.
3. The Making Part
This is where you take over. You’ll get to crafting while we wander around to help, offer tips, or rescue any collapsing pots. Before you leave, you’ll stamp your name on your masterpiece, we’ll snap a photo of it for our records, and grab your details so we can text you when it’s ready.
